Shriners Success Stories
- Lauren Monroe - A VERY Thankful patient of Shriners Hospital
Hey I just wanted let David know how thankful I am for his contributions to the Shriners Hospital. I was a patient at Shriners from the time I was 3 years old until 18. They did 4 surgeries on my left knee to try to correct my leg length discrepancy. My right leg was 2 and 1/2 inches shorter than my left leg, making walking extremely difficult. But after 4 surgeries over the course of 7 years I am walking with ease today. I am proud to say that I just graduated with my BA in Education from Concordia University in Portland, Oregon. And I was able to walk across that stage to get my diploma without having to struggle.
If it weren't for the Shriners that never would have happened. My dad was in the National Guard and there was no way we could have afforded the surgeries.
Because of people like David who help fund the Shriners, people's lives are changed! I know mine sure has! To be honest, I have never heard of David until today, I was watching "Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader" and was truly touched. But I think that it is important that he realizes just how much his contributions mean. David, Thank you so much for doing what you are doing! I hope your life is blessed immensely! Good luck on your upcoming race (the Daytona 500 I believe)! I'll be watching!
Sincerely,
A VERY Thankful patient of Shriners Hospital
Lauren Monroe
