Shriners Success Stories
- Mollie's Success Story
David, Thank you so much for supporting Shriners! We have met on several occassions, the latest in Orlando at the 2010 Shrine Bowl game. I wouldn't be who I am today without Shriners.
I was born with a complete unilateral Cleft Lip and Palate and have had 20 reconstructive surgeries at Shriners Hospital for Children--Chicago. When I was born, doctors told my parents that I would never be able to play a musical instrument or even be able to speak right. I played the bass clarinet all through Jr. High and High School and after approximately 15 years of Speech Therapy, I now serve as a patient ambassador for Shriners Hospitals for Children, speaking to groups nationwide on behalf of all Shriners and patients. I enjoy every minute of it! After countless trips to Chicago and 19 years, I have now been released as a patient, however I am blessed to be able to serve as a patient ambassador for the rest of my life!
I feel so blessed to have Shriners Hospitals, that help 1000s of "kids" like me. Without the care I have received from the hospital, I wouldn't be as strong and confident as I am today and I certainly wouldn't be able to stand up in front of crowds speaking about my experiences.
Thanks again for all your support!!! Best of Luck this year Racing!!! I will be watching! Also, congrats on your 1st degree!! I am so excited you are going into Shrinedom!!!
Mollie Carlson
